How AI Lighting Analyzes Your Music

Real-time audio capture

AI Lighting captures the audio signal directly from your player output or from your computer's microphone. Analysis starts as soon as sound is detected, with no prior configuration.

Spectral analysis & BPM

The analysis engine breaks down the audio signal into frequency bands: bass (20–250 Hz), mids (guitars, vocals) and highs (drums, cymbals). BPM is calculated continuously by detecting rhythmic energy peaks.

Color & intensity generation

Based on dominant frequencies and overall signal energy, the AI generates color combinations coherent with the musical mood. An energetic track triggers warm, intense colors; a ballad produces cool, soft tones.

Automatic DMX output

Calculated values are sent directly to MyStrow's DMX engine and transmitted in real time over your Art-Net line. All your fixtures react to the music continuously, with no manual intervention.

Frequently asked questions about AI Lighting

How can an AI drive DMX fixtures ?
The AI listens to the live audio signal and splits it into frequency bands: bass, mids and highs. From the energy in each band, the overall level and the detected tempo, it continuously computes a colour and an intensity for each of your fixture groups, then sends those values down your DMX line. There is no pre-recorded scene and nothing to trigger: values are generated frame by frame while the music plays.
Do I need to program anything before switching the AI on ?
No. Once your fixtures are patched and spread across the six groups, AI Lighting starts with one click and takes over immediately. That is the main difference with a timeline or a recording: there is no scene to build beforehand, which makes it usable on an improvised set or on a track you are discovering the same evening.
Does it work with live music ?
Yes. The analysis can run either on the output of the built-in audio player, or on your computer's microphone input. In the latter case the AI reacts to what it hears in the room: a band on stage, a DJ on their own console, or any source that does not go through the software.
Does the AI follow the track's BPM ?
Yes, tempo is estimated continuously between 40 and 200 BPM by detecting rhythmic energy peaks. It paces the changes: on a fast track transitions tighten up, on a slow tempo they stretch out. Because the estimate is permanent, a tempo change mid-track is followed without any intervention.
How is this different from a classic sound-to-light mode ?
A classic sound-to-light varies one intensity in proportion to the sound level: the result follows the volume but stays flat, and every fixture does the same thing. AI Lighting reasons per group and per stage role — front light, top light, side and back light do not receive the same instructions — and picks colour combinations that are coherent with each other rather than a raw reaction to volume.
Can I take back control while the AI is running ?
Yes. AI Lighting is one mode among others: you can switch it off at any moment and return to manual control, from the interface or from your controller. That is the usual live workflow — let the AI handle the musical stretches, take over for the key moments.
Which DMX interfaces are supported ?
MyStrow outputs DMX over Art-Net, an open standard (UDP, port 6454) implemented by the vast majority of nodes on the market, as well as over compatible USB/DMX interfaces. Your choice of hardware has no bearing on AI Lighting: it computes the values, the transport carries them.
Is AI Lighting available for free ?
AI Lighting is included from the free version, which gives you 14 days of access with no credit card. One caveat: DMX output to real fixtures requires a Pro or Lifetime plan. On the free tier you can drive everything and watch the AI work on the stage plot, but not yet command your actual machines.
